coins, replacing Rupees FIVE  currency notes(due to prohibitive printing costs and lesser life) in
1992 to 2004
The coins are
THICK AND HEAVY
and composed of
Copper-Nickel with security edge
.  Besides normal coins, India issued many 'Commemorative' coins to commemorate various Indian Great Men: Dadabahi Naoroji etc. & Great Events: ILO etc.
There was no issue of  2005 & 2006 coins for normal circulation, except few commemorative coins.
For years
2007 &  2008
, India issued new design coins with

composed of stainless steel.

Each mint has distinct mark, which is embossed on each coin.
