History:
Romford Brewery was founded in 1708 by Benjamin Wilson as an extension to the Star Inn located on High Street in the City of London. In 1799 the brewery was bought by Edward Ind and expanded rapidly. In 1845 London brewers Octavius & George Coope joined the business and was then named the Ind Coope Brewery. By the early 1900s the Romford Brewery employed over 450 people. By the 1960's-70s it employed 1,000 workers. One of the Romford Brewerys most popular beers was John Bull-Bitter which was named after the historic English farmer character and his distinctive caricature logo was displayed on the product. The Brewery closed in 1993.
